Description

A large area of Åland roof climbing mixed with routes with water rounded shapes and even bleau-like top outs. Some sectors provide cooler temps and remain in shade most of the day whilst some sectors dry quickly and bathe more in sun. The area is easy to access and is also suitable for groups with kids. There are even some kids routes that have been cleaned to keep our little ones happy.

Note: No open fire is allowed and No camping in area or parking.

History

Climbing at Grottan started in early 90´s. Surely the area is already fully developed and scouted in 2018? Apparently not. Anssi Laatikainen and Nick Mills found his area separately but pretty much at the same time. The area had its main lines opened between 2018 and 2020 when the topo was made. The area still has lots of potential for new lines and variations. As of 2020 there were 100 lines with almost no "versions" of them done.

South Grottan

The area is access sensitive!

Grottan road has been closed by gate since spring 2024. Parking nowdays at Soltuna. Access by hike trails from Soltuna Cafe. Different trail leads to old parking of "Ålander" and use the "Grottan trail" to access "maneater" / "moonbored" / "grottanbleau" etc sectors. Trails visible in map. Access grottan road by trail and use road to find the desired sector access trail start point.

NOTE: Making Fire is forbidden in ALL Åland sectors: grottan and south grottan areas as well - and fågelberget for that matter. I repeat: No Fire here. Always- no exceptions.
