Description

The rock is limestone and quite sharp and harsh for the skin. There is some crumbly rock but this is mainly due to the lack of traffic. There is potential for quite a few blocs where the main boulder cluster is located (not where the sport crag is) and certainly even more hidden gems scattered further from the parking. Agios Herakleidios has generally been more popular for its decent sport crag but it has more possibilities for its bouldering development. There is a good range of difficulty - currently ranging from VB / 3 to V7 / 7A+

The development of the field has sparked more recently with more people taking interest in having an outdoor climbing area in the capital city of Cyprus.

The climate of this area is usually quite hot in the summer season as it doesn't offer much elevation (404m) but it has some shade from the big pine trees. The best season to climb here is in the winter months, from November to April.

History

The sports crag was first explored and bolted over a decade ago. A bouldering festival then followed which shone a spotlight on the blocs in the area. Since then, they have had some traffic but never more than the locals or people who knew the area due to there never been a Topo made. Much of this development is credited to Andreas Pai Pano, Stefanos Papadopoulos and Andreas Parparinos. Now with more local climbing gyms opening people are more eager to hit the outdoors and put their training to the test.

Agios Herakleidios

The area is access sensitive!

Agios Herakleidios is located in the outskirts of Nicosia, just 20km from the capital city of Cyprus. The sports crag is located inside the fenced area of the monastery of Agios Herakleidios. Climbing where the sport crag is located is only permitted on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month. All other boulders are available all year round without any restrictions/permits.
