Description

Kuonummi is a nice set of 3 sectors, with nicely varied styles of climbing from easy low slabs to a bit harder overhangs. Rock is mostly a bit on the rough side here, but Nummikivet offers some really nice grippy rock type. Kuonummi and Hurmekivet are close to each other and Nummikivet a little apart from the others.

KUONUMMI
Kuonummi is a mid-size boulder with a little rough rock quality, but the routes are mainly of a good quality, some are even excellent. And good news is that the best ones of the rock are also blessed with the best rock quality on this boulder.

Landings are here are mainly good, with the exception of the "Lean On Me" face. It is recommended having at least 3 good pads climbing the ones on that face. But those problems are also well worth carrying some extra pads with you. Also on "Nojatuoligreidaaja" you should make sure not to fall on the roots of the fallen tree right next to the problem.

Kuonummi -boulder is definitely at its best when the friction is good. Most of the routes are on the shady side of the rock in the summer evenings, but still not at their prime during the hottest days of the summer. It is on an open spot, so it dries quickly after the rains. There is a little pool of water under the "Lean On Me" in the spring time, but it should be gone during May.

HURMEKIVET
Hurmekivet is a sector of 5 low boulders. Rock quality on these is also a bit on the rough side, but overall quality of the routes is pretty nice. Hurmekivet are on a partially harvested forest. So they dry pretty quickly after the rains, but on the other hand are still a bit shady, so they are a good option for climbing in the summer time as well.

Landings are good in general, and mostly being low the problems are safe to climb without carrying large amounts of pads with you.

NUMMIKIVET
Nummikivet is a sector of 2 low boulders with excellent, grippy and pleasant rock type with really nice set of holds on them. Landings here are mainly good, with the exception of a bit annoying rock under the "Lapsen Piirtämä".

The rocks are on a partially open space, so they dry relatively quickly. Having good holds on them, mostly the problems are good to climb during the summer time as well. "Mosh & Go" may be an exception, as it has some slopy holds that are at their prime during the spring and autumn friction.

History

Kimmo had already scouted Nummikivet years ago, maybe 2018 or so, but first problems in Kuonummi were climbed in 2023 after he had scouted Kuolonkivi in the Autumn 2022. The first problem climbed in the area was Nojatuoligreidaaja, that Kimmo had set his eyes on when finding the boulder. Soon after that most of the problems of Kuonummi -boulder were opened with the helping hand of Tatu. While waiting for the drying of that little pool of water under the Lean On Me they opened first (and most) problems Nummikivet with Maza.

Being low and in a bit more shady location Hurmekivet were saved for some more relaxed summertime bouldering. Those sessions took place during the summer -23, first Kimmo & Tatu, and later Vesa & Maza joined in for a couple more problems.
