Description

Laukonselkä is a small crag in the middle of nowhere. Currently it consists of a tiny ~3-4m high slab with a few routes. It is quite dirty due to being difficult to clean. Some routes are quite decent here, and the rock quality is very good. The climbs are mostly mental ones, with difficulty coming from trusting your wet shoes on a dirty wall. The holds are mostly crimps and slopers, with a few nice cracks mixed in. The wall dries off quite fast in the summer months. The water is really deep and has been scouted to be safe of rocks etc. Do be cautious, as driftwood can still make it's way here! Also the landings of both of the sides are a bit more sketchy. If you fall, push yourself away from the wall.

History

The wall was found by Asikainen in Midsummer of 2022, by their little brother showing the spot as a place for cliff diving. The bouldering potential was subsequently discovered and two of the routes were climbed barefoot.

Asikainen and Virtala returned during midsummer next year and established a few new routes and graded the earlier ones.

The area is access sensitive!

Accessing this crag will prove to be quite difficult. It is literally in the middle of nowhere. There is only a few options.

You can come here by boat, as the lake the crag is in is connected to greater Saimaa. It is also possible to leave your boat near the place and come with a SUP-board or simply by swimming. Swimming will prove to be quite difficult, as the crag isn't too close to any roads.

Respect the crag and nature here. There is also multiple cottages nearby. Mind your volume.
