The climbing around Agios Petros is divided into two sectors: Zonaga, located near the village of Agios Petros, and Kakavo, situated closer to the village of Mesorachi, separated by a 10km drive (approx. 20 mins).
Sector Zonaga is characterized by its accessibility and moderate difficulty. The majority of the routes offer technical climbing up to 7a, with the occasional hard extension for those seeking an extra challenge.
The sector features a mix of sharp-crimped grey or dark blue slabs, alongside vertical to slightly overhanging streaks of red and orange limestone.
Approach is minimal, however, the wall has high sun exposure. While the grades are manageable in various conditions, the sector is best enjoyed on cloudy days or cold, calm winter days. Due to relatively low traffic, the rock remains unpolished, offering excellent opportunities for honest on-sight climbing.
For sector Kakavo, go to Kakavo crag here on 27 crags!
Both sectors share a common challenge though, extreme sun exposure. Planning a successful climbing day requires careful attention to the forecast, as the walls can quickly become too hot, too cold, or if the weather turns, too damp. For optimal friction and comfort, we recommend visiting when temperatures range between 5–10°C with clear skies and light winds.
