Algund (Lagundo) is by far the most extensive and renowned bouldering area in Alto Adige, and one of the largest in northern Italy. Set in a beautiful forest just above Merano, it is a true bouldering paradise that continues to grow year after year.

What makes Algund so special? First of all, its sheer size. The area covers nearly 50 hectares of woodland, roughly the equivalent of 70 football fields, and hosts hundreds of boulders with well over 400 problems. Thanks to this incredible density and variety, Algund offers enjoyable climbing for all levels, from beginners to strong boulderers.
Landings are generally comfortable, and the network of paths is clear and well maintained. Access times vary depending on the chosen parking area, but approaches are usually short and never longer than about 15 minutes.
The rock is gneiss, providing excellent friction and a very pleasant climbing experience. Only a few of the most popular problems show polished footholds, but overall the quality remains high throughout the area.
All sectors face south, making Algund a prime winter destination. Cold, dry days offer perfect friction, while summer temperatures usually make climbing impractical.

Algund is also easily reachable by public transport, which is quite rare for a bouldering area of this size. If you’re spending a winter holiday here, don’t miss a visit to Merano, with its charming historic center and famous thermal baths, perfect for rest days between sessions.

Algund (Lagundo) è di gran lunga la zona di bouldering più estesa e rinomata dell'Alto Adige, e una delle più grandi del nord Italia. Immersa in uno splendido bosco proprio sopra Merano, è un vero paradiso del bouldering che continua a crescere anno dopo anno.

Cosa rende Algund così speciale? Sicuramente le sue dimensioni. L'area copre quasi 50 ettari di bosco, l'equivalente di 70 campi da calcio, e ospita centinaia di massi con oltre 400 linee. Grazie a questa incredibile densità e varietà, Algund offre un'arrampicata divertente per tutti i livelli, dai principianti ai boulderisti più forti.
Gli atterraggi sono generalmente comodi e la rete di sentieri è chiara e ben mantenuta. I tempi di accesso variano a seconda del parcheggio scelto, ma gli avvicinamenti sono solitamente brevi e mai superiori ai 15 minuti circa.
La roccia è gneiss, che garantisce un attrito eccellente e un'esperienza di arrampicata molto piacevole. Solo alcuni dei blocchi più popolari ad oggi risultano piuttosto unti, ma nel complesso la qualità rimane alta in tutta la zona.
Tutti i settori sono esposti a sud, rendendo Algund una meta invernale di prim'ordine. Le giornate fredde e secche offrono un attrito perfetto, mentre le temperature estive solitamente rendono l'arrampicata poco praticabile.

Algund è facilmente raggiungibile con i mezzi pubblici, il che è piuttosto raro per un'area boulder di queste dimensioni. Se state trascorrendo una vacanza invernale qui, non perdetevi una visita a Merano, con il suo affascinante centro storico e le famose terme, perfette per i giorni di riposo tra una sessione e l'altra.

Bouldering in Algund has its roots in 1997, when the sport began to gain traction in the area thanks to pioneers Lorenzo Casera and Wladimiro Zanatta. Two years afterward, Andrea Salvà and Tony Lamprecht made significant contributions that further boosted the local bouldering scene.
A special mention must be given to the enormous contribution of Juri Chiaramonte and the many climbers who followed him, brushing and opening an impressive number of lines. Important contributions were also made by Davide Perbellini and his friends, who helped expand and refine the area.
Algund is home to a rich variety of boulders, with new developments continuing to appear year after year. One of the most recent additions is the outstanding Sonnenbank sector, a true gem for climbers, where Alexander Ladurna dedicated a great deal of work.

L'arrampicata boulder ad Algund affonda le sue radici nel 1997, quando lo sport iniziò a prendere piede nella zona grazie ai boulderisti Lorenzo Casera e Wladimiro Zanatta. Due anni dopo, Andrea Salvà e Tony Lamprecht hanno fornito contributi significativi che hanno dato ulteriore slancio alla scena boulder locale. Un ringraziamento speciale va all'enorme contributo di Juri Chiaramonte e dei molti scalatori che lo hanno seguito, pulendo e aprendo un numero impressionante di linee. Contributi importanti sono stati dati anche da Davide Perbellini e dai suoi amici, che hanno aiutato ad espandere e perfezionare l'area.
Algund ospita una ricca varietà di massi, con nuovi blocchi che continuano ad apparire anno dopo anno. Una delle aggiunte più recenti è l'eccezionale settore Sonnenbank, un vero gioiello per i climber, dove Alexander Ladurna ha dedicato una grande mole di lavoro.
