Description

Avegno is a town north of Locarno and about 1 hour from Chironico, and it offers few different sectors with great and very easily accessible boulder problems. Even though the sectors are almost all within a walking distance from each other, they offer versatile surroundings and problems.

The boulders in Centrale, Destra, Sinistra and and di Fuori are in a forest park-like surroundings and the boulders are very easily reachable with short access. Fiume then again offers smooth blocks and traverses in a beautiful riverbed. Near boulder 17 and 18 is also a possibility to set up a slackline over the water. To rig the line, make sure to bring bolthangers and/or long slings.

The style ranges from overhangs to traverses and smooth riverside sloper problems. On average the landings are pretty good and the boulders not extremely high, so it's possible to enjoy the area even with a small amount of pads. Especially those enjoying 6th grade will find plenty of problems to climb, but there's also a good amount of easier and harder problems.

Most of the boulders are very easily accessible making it a good place for families with kids. Especially sectors Centrale and di Fuori are great with the little ones.

The best season for bouldering in the area is spring and autumn, but even summer and winter can work by choosing either the foresty or the sunny boulders.

Pads can be rented from Alpha Boulder gym in Giubiasco (Bellinzona).
