Description

Mikkelänkallio is a wonderful small crag in a nice surrounding suitable for the entire family.

With a short nice walk less than 5 minutes from the parking you'll reach the first rock. This one is a typical "rapakivi" boulder and therefore isn't really that interesting. But just behind this one, you'll find the main face. It's mostly fast drying, but some spots might be wet for a longer time. The long rock face is divided in two parts for easier climbing guide usage. The rock quality is excellent gneiss and the height of most problems are 3 meters or less with easy topouts. Landings are all good. You can find everything from really easy child friendly slabs to an extremely hard crimp problem most probably in the 8th grade range.

As always, do behave according to good climbing ethics, leave no trash, brush of tick marks, don't play music, etc. Be friendly to other people in the forest. If trash from other people is found, take it with you.

Park on one of the parking spots shown. Remember that the street parking is restricted to 4 hours (until 18 o'clock and usage of parking disc is mandatory). The other parking is 24H. It's about the same walking distance from both.

ps.the approach is not directly stroller friendly. It's a good path in the forest, but can be a bit tricky with a stroller.

History

The crag was found back in 2011. Mikael was looking for new rocks and there are a couple of rock markings in the forest. Next to one of the rocks, there was this nice small cliff not marked in the map. This was a happy surprise, especially because it's really nice gneiss. In 2012 he started cleaning it and had some help from his Friends Fredde and Henkka.
But one project which is a silly one move wonder eluded him. The one move up to the stand start of Bleau. After a session in the spring 2015 he didn't go back before 2021 to find the entire crag being all green again.
Cleaning the crag again though showed that the obvious foot hold used for this sit start project and for Maagine repäsy, is continuing for another 20cm and would probably have revealed itself sooner or later after seeing traffic. This time completely cleaned, the actual project was easier than before because of a completely different method.

During the summer of 2021 the crag was cleaned and "re-opened" by Mikael, Tomi, Anne, and some other friends! Huge thanks to everyone! Let's hope this time it stays clean!
