CLIMBING AT THIS WALL IS CLOSED! ⛔
Kvernhusskaret is the name given to the long series of walls going up the valley behind the campsite. The area is mainly trad, and more routes have probably been climbed then the ones listed here. It is rumored that several routes in the lower walls were done back in the 90`s, but what or by who is unknown. The routes listed for this strech of wall are the more recent ascents/additions from the 2012-2014 period, just before the wall was closed. The routes are up to 50 meters long and are for the most part decended from the top or via rappel. For the upper walls the return is via the gulley just left of Brattsvaet.
Big boulders can be found under the wall for most of it`s length making the final approach to the routes somewhat interesting at times.
The valley behind what is now the campsite was one of the first areas developed by the Flatanger pioneers in the late 90`s. As there where many climbers visiting in this time period and the routes are all trad, info about all the lines that have been climbed is incomplete. What is known (beyond what is in this topo) is that several easy routes at the end of the Brattsvaet sector was climbed in the late 90`s aswell as some routes in the lower walls close to the campsite.
The main activity here was during the late 90`s with the first routes climbed in 96 by the Flatanger pioneers Pål Benum Reiten and Thomas Vekve. By the early 2000`s the climbers from Trondheim had moved on and the walls saw little traffic untill the first Flatanger climbing festival in 2012 when the walls got some renewed interest. Not long after however the walls where closed indefinitely because of endangered birds living in the walls. This ban is still in effect today (2026) and probably will remain in effect as long as the birds choose to call these walls their home. If this ever changes we will update the topo with the new information, untill then THE WALLS ARE CLOSED FOR CLIMBING! ⛔
