Description

Oxhagaberget is a quite large climbing area with many sectors and a lot of routes. The routes lean more towards traditional routes where you need own protection gear, but there are also five sport routes and three partially bolted routes. Roughly half of the routes have a top anchor, while the rest have trees you can use as anchor points. Toproping almost any route is possible.

The rock quality on some routes is variable, so keep this in mind, especially when placing trad gear. Högsta väggen is family friendly, whereas the terrain at the two most northern sectors is more demanding. With kids, you can also do toproping at the parking, where there is an easy wall with great rock quality for them to enjoy.

Please keep a low profile while approaching the crag and respect the privacy of the local habitants who live really close to the approach trail. No littering, no fires and keep an eye open for wild birds that have been seen making nests at some routes. If you see nesting birds, keep a distance to them.

History

Oxhagaberget is a fairly recent addition to the climbing spots in south-western Finland. The main architect at the beginning was Niklas Hollsten, who started developing the area in 2016. We have him to thank for the ample and convenient parking space, the nice path to the crag and most of the access work, not to mention all the routes he has made. In his wake some other people also made routes at Oxhagaberget.

In 2021 Perttu Ollila found the stupendous Taket sector and started to open new routes at Oxhagaberget – so many actually, that we needed to make a new topo to be able to present all of them to you, the climbers.

We hope to get some work done on cleaning many of the routes in the future, as they have become partly dirty and mossy. We will inform you here if we get this done.

Oxhagaberget

The area is access sensitive!

From road 183 (Perniöntie/Bjarnåvägen), turn to Hummelkärrsvägen/Humalasuontie. Go straight at the first crossing, the main parking is a bit further on the right side next to a cliff. You can't miss it. If the parking is occupied, leave your car at the crossing.

It's STRICTLY FORBIDDEN TO DRIVE YOUR CAR TO THE HOUSES close to the crag or turn on their yard. No cars are allowed to drive further than the parking.

There is a clear path that leads to the crag on the right side further down the gravel road (marked on the map) . Just follow the "Oxhagaberget" signs, they take you to the main sector (Högsta väggen). To get to the top of Högsta väggen, you can scramble your way up between Repa and Oxhaga Highway.
