Description

The Sill is a beautiful little river that runs through Innsbruck from south to north, eventually flowing into the Inn. Despite its proximity to the city, the Sill valley can feel like a reprieve in nature early in the year, when the last snow is melting and few people make their way into the valley. In summer, it can get crowded with students coming to swim and enjoy the sun.
The rock here is river-polished Quartzphyllite. Usually crumbly and easy to break, millions of years of running water have washed away the outer layers of the rock and what's left is surprisingly solid, with enough friction but little risk for the skin. As with any area, some of the problems are of very high quality - I would say for example Bahama Mama, Red River Shore, The Hunt and The Spirit Molecule - others much less so.
Many problems are right at the water's edge. Snow and glaciers melting in early summer and the dam upriver can oftentimes lead to them being unclimbable. Generally, from experience, the best season for Sillschlucht is therefore in spring, before the snow in the mountains melts.

History

The problems described here were all developed in spring 2013 and spring 2014. It is highly likely that people climbed here before that, but the boulders all required wuite a bit of cleaning from moss and sand, and given that it has been 10 years since then and nobody has come forward with any additional problems or different names, any other bouldering history in the area has probalby been lost in time.
