History

These huge boulders seemingly lacking nearby mountains have been standing in these forests since the end of the last ice-age as a result of being carried huge distances inside the ice crust, ending upp dropped below a small hillside created by the ice moving in that same direction. The enormous ice pressure and melt made the bedrock smooth, while the carried boulders remained more rough.

People have been climbing in the forests of Svanå since at least mid 2000. Most of the areas were developed between 2010 and 2013 by members of Västerås Klätterklubb. Some less popular boulders has been overgrown since then, so bring a rough brush if you are unsure of the state of the moss.

One of the most frequented areas is Gläntan where close to a hundred (99) problems are yours to solve. This area also happens to host a historical cave underneath the main boulder, accessable from the west side of the boulder. Stories tell that the men of Sweden's most infamous 13th century thiefs, Puke, used this cave as a hideout. There is at least one more cave at Gläntan. Can you find it?
