This zone basically comprises of just two sectors: the ‘main’ crag and L’Antepauta. The main crag was originally developed back in the late 1980s but subsequently received little attention, with the inevitable result that it gradually fell into disuse, and by the late 1990s the routes had become dirty again and the approach paths all but impassable. In 2007 a small group of local climbers re-opened the paths, cleaned and re-equipped the older routes and then went on to add a surprising number of new ones. The cliff has now been returned to its former glory and offers superb climbing on compact vertical rock, at its best on sunny mid-winter days. Sector Antepauta was developed more recently and although it may not quite meet the standards of excellence set by the main cliff it is still worth a visit, particularly on afternoons and evenings in warm weather, when its easterly orientation provides welcome shade.
🧗♂️Antepauta:
A small sector (in terms of numbers of routes) but quite an impressive one. The highest part of the sector reaches 30m in height and features sustained climbing in the 7th and 8th grades. Further right there are some easier routes and also a very interesting cave feature. Orientation: east.
Approach: From the town of Artesa de Segre follow signposts to the small village of Baldomar (5km). Once inside the village, turn sharply right onto a narrow road signposted La Clua. Follow this for approximately 4.5km then turn left onto an unsurfaced track signposted Vall d’Ariet / Petjades Dinosaures, and continue for approximately 400m to a parking place on the right (P1). On foot, continue along a well-marked path leading into an often-dry riverbed. Cross this and ascend a short slope to the base of the cliff (10 minutes).
