Description

The bouldering area is located in the Langtang Valley, specifically in the KYANJIN GOMPA area, at an elevation ranging from approximately 3,900 to 4,100 meters above sea level. Due to its exceptional altitude, this site is recognized as one of the highest bouldering areas in the world. Currently, the area features around 40 established bouldering routes, with difficulties ranging from V1 to V9. Despite its early stage of development, the site holds significant potential for future growth, particularly with the continued efforts of the Langtang Outdoor Initiative and the involvement of climbers from around the world.

The area is supported by reliable accommodation and logistical facilities, making it suitable for visiting climbers. Access to the site involves a combination of one day of jeep travel from the Kathmandu Valley, followed by approximately three days of trekking, offering a unique experience that thoughtfully combines both trekking and high-altitude bouldering. This harmonious blend of adventure, accessibility, and natural beauty makes the area a truly distinctive and respectfully developed destination for the global climbing community

History

This area was first explored in 2022 by Thupten Lama, a local climber from the Langtang region. In the following years, through his initiative—the Langtang Outdoor Initiative—he organized the Langtang Boulder Hunt Series 1 and Series 2. Among these, Series 2 placed a stronger focus on this specific area, recognizing its significant potential for bouldering development. Although the number of participants was limited, the team successfully established several high-quality bouldering routes. Alongside bouldering, a highline was also set up, with contributions from Dylan, Sulav Chalise, sahan Maharjan, Kismat David, and Thupten Lama.

In 2025, the area received further attention with the arrival of a documentary film crew from the United States. This international team included Gentil, Charlotte, JP, Travis, Ali, and Patrick, who worked collaboratively with Kismat David and Thupten Lama, the local climber. Together, they developed additional bouldering routes, further enhancing the climbing potential of the area and contributing to its growing recognition as a high-altitude bouldering destination.
