Lovers of short, intense routes, welcome to Mazzano!
This compact crag, set on the slopes of Monte Tartarino just outside Brescia, is a former quarry that has been transformed into a popular local climbing spot. Thanks to the very short approach and the concentration of powerful lines, Mazzano is a favorite destination for after-work sessions.
Despite its modest size, the crag offers engaging climbing and surprising variety.
This topo includes two sectors.
• Mazzano (Main Sector)
The main sector hosts 23 routes, ranging from 5b to 7b+. The lines are fairly short and develop on a vertical or slightly overhanging wall, characterized by sharp pockets and small tufas. Due to the friable nature of the rock, many holds have been chipped over the years.
Grades tend to be sandbagged, while protections are generally safe and recently replaced. Extra attention is advised on the routes on the far right, which still preserve the original bolting.
The base of the crag is comfortable, equipped with a bench and offering a pleasant open view. The approach is very short. The wall receives sun throughout the morning and becomes shaded in the afternoon: best climbed in the morning during winter and in the afternoon during summer.
• Monte Tartarino – Copperhead
This smaller sector features a vertical wall with just 5 routes, graded from 6a+ to 7a.
Apart from the fourth route, rock quality here is generally inferior compared to the main sector. The sector sits just below the summit of Monte Tartarino, on the walls of another old quarry.
Due to loose rock, wearing a helmet is strongly recommended. The sector offers a beautiful view over the Pianura Bresciana. With its south-facing exposure, it receives sun throughout the day and is therefore best suited for winter climbing.
After climbing, there’s plenty to explore nearby. Start with a visit to Brescia’s historic center, just minutes away, where you’ll find the Roman Forum, the medieval castle, and the UNESCO-listed San Salvatore–Santa Giulia complex.
For a quieter break, walk the trails of the Virle Valley, green and peaceful even when the city is busy.
If you’re looking for water or more outdoor activities, Lake Garda is only 30–40 minutes away.

Amanti delle vie brevi e intense, benvenuti a Mazzano!
Questa falesia compatta, situata sulle pendici del Monte Tartarino appena fuori Brescia, è un'ex cava trasformata in un popolare spot d'arrampicata. Grazie all'avvicinamento brevissimo e alla concentrazione di linee fisiche, Mazzano è una delle mete preferite per le sessioni post-lavoro.
Nonostante le dimensioni modeste, la falesia offre un'arrampicata coinvolgente e una sorprendente varietà.
Questa relazione include due settori.
• Mazzano (Settore Principale)
Il settore principale ospita 23 vie, con gradi che vanno dal 5b al 7b+. Le linee sono piuttosto corte e si sviluppano su una parete verticale o leggermente strapiombante, caratterizzata da buchi netti e piccole canne. A causa della natura friabile della roccia, molte prese sono state scavate nel corso degli anni.
I gradi tendono a essere severi, mentre le protezioni sono generalmente sicure e rinnovate di recente. Si consiglia particolare attenzione sulle vie all'estrema destra, che conservano ancora la chiodatura originale.
La base della falesia è comoda, attrezzata con una panchina e offre una piacevole vista sulla piana bresciana. L'avvicinamento è molto breve.
La parete prende sole per tutta la mattina e va in ombra nel pomeriggio: le condizioni migliori si trovano la mattina in inverno e il pomeriggio in estate.
• Monte Tartarino – Copperhead
Questo settore più piccolo presenta una parete verticale con solo 5 vie, gradate dal 6a+ al 7a. Ad eccezione della quarta via, la qualità della roccia qui è generalmente inferiore rispetto al settore principale. Il settore si trova appena sotto la cima del Monte Tartarino, sulle pareti di un'altra vecchia cava.
A causa della roccia friabile, l'uso del casco è caldamente raccomandato. Anche questo settore offre una bellissima vista sulla pianura bresciana. Con la sua esposizione a sud, riceve sole tutto il giorno ed è quindi più indicato per l'arrampicata invernale.
Dopo l’arrampicata, c’è molto da esplorare nei dintorni: inizia visitando il centro storico di Brescia, a pochi minuti di distanza: il Foro Romano, il Castello medievale e il complesso di San Salvatore–Santa Giulia, patrimonio UNESCO.
Poi percorri i sentieri della Valle di Virle, tranquilli e verdi anche quando la città è affollata.
Infine, se desideri fare un bagno o un’altra attività all’aperto, il Lago di Garda dista solo 30–40 minuti.
